BAD HABITS
Habits aren’t all bad - some are downright good! No one would ever see punctuality, cleanliness, and security-consciousness as alarming.
But even the better habits can get a hold and start to control you and impact on your life. A habit is often defined as a pattern of behaviour carried out over and over with little thought or effort.
Yet sometimes, what at first you did consciously becomes something done without thinking. One cigarette can follow another absent-mindedly, sometimes even with one burning in another room.
Sometimes you go to chew a nail and realise it’s already bitten down to the quick. It helps even to picture life without these simple examples of mild coping strategies which the unconscious mind lures us into doing without thinking.
Mindfulness cultivates awareness of behaviour, while hypnotherapy is able to access the unconscious part of the mind and to question the need for habits.
